Chiefly correspondence, 1824-1877, accounts, 1822-1878, and other papers, including agricultural and personal property inventories, of George Washington Bassett (1800-1878) concerning the management of "Clover Lea" and "Farmington" plantations in Hanover County, Va. Also included is correspondence, 1830-1886, of his wife, Betty Burnet (Lewis) Bassett (1808- 1886); and correspondence, 1861-1886, and accounts, 1865-1886, of their son, George Washington Bassett (1831-1886), including papers concerning the operation of Woodburn School for Boys, Hanover County. Also included in the collection is a merchant's account book, 1728-1755, kept by William Bassett at "Eltham," New Kent County, Va.; correspondence, 1804-1841, aadministration accounts, and estate account book of Burwell Bassett (1764-1841) of New Kent County; correspondence, 1797-1826, accounts, 1790-1826, legal papers and estate accounts, 1823- 1827, of John Bassett (1765-1826), of "Farmington"; accounts, 1795-1828, and miscellaneous legal papers of lawyer Robert Lewis of Fredericksburg, Va., concerning his law practice and the management of "Pine Grove" plantation in Stafford County, Va.; and grist mill account books, 1828- 1852, of John Peter of Jefferson County, Va. (now W. Va.).
